Uninorte put emphasises on current international affiliations with the Interuniversity Development Center- CINDA; the COLUMBUS Association; Latin American Television Association V ATEI; Latin American Center for Computer Sciences Studies- CLEI; University Network of Continuous Education of Latin America and the Caribbean - HACU; REDFORD; Colombian Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry V PRO-ASIA; Consortium for the Collaboration of Higher Education of North America- CONAHEC; Interamerican University Organization-OUI; the Continuous Education Network of Latin America and Europe-RECLA; LAC CEI; CLASCO; NAFSA; International Educators Association - EAIE; TESOL;SICELE. INSTITUTIONAL INTEREST ongoing development of interdisciplinary research centers and collaboration with international academic and industrial partners encourage scholars at Uninorte to pursue research in our strategic fields: Energy (emphasis on renewable energies, energetic efficiency, and energetic policy), Global Health (emphasis on infectious diseases, chronic diseases and public health), Human Development and Quality of Life (emphasis on childhood development and education). The Universidad del Norte was founded in 1966 in Barranquilla, Colombia. It is a higher education institution that since its beginning characterized itself due to its orientation towards the needs of the Caribbean Region of Colombia, its relations with its surroundings, the society and its deep sense of ethics, transparency and excellence in its academic, extension and research activities. The Universidad del Norte is a non-profit foundation founded in the year 1966 by a group of businessmen of the Caribbean Region. In that year business leaders, led by Mr. Karl C. Parrish, in representation of the National Industrialists Association (ANDI), the Fundacion Barranquilla (Barranquilla Foundation) today Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo, and the Colombian Institute of Administration Incolda, signed the minutes that constituted the Universidad del Norte as a higher education center. Thus, on July 11th, 1966, under the presidency of the engineer Julio Muvdi, the University started its academic activities in the El Prado neighborhood. At that time it had 58 students and ten professors for the basic cycles of Business Administration and Engineering.

Campus and Accommodation

The UniNorte is a U.S. style campus filled with beautiful tropical plants, plenty of open green space and even the occasional wandering iguana. The campus has many resources available for students such as computer labs, study halls, gaming rooms, a wide variety of restaurants/cafeterias, a library, athletic facilities and more. The university has eight schools, including, Engineering, Administrative Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Legal Sciences, General Science. ISA students at the UniNorte have access to courses offered in all of these academic areas.

International Student Life

Barranquilla, where the Magdalena River meets the Caribbean Sea, started it's life as "Colombia's port" in the early 1600s. Through the years Barranquilla has welcomed people from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. This diverse population has given the city a unique and friendly feel and an international flair. Known as the Golden Gate of Colombia since the late nineteenth century it was an entranced for passengers and goods. Barranquilla was a pioneer of commercial aviation in 1919. The capital of the Atlantico displays republican architecture in the neighbourhood El Prado; also in its museums, beaches and festivals. In the surrounding area tourists can visit creeks, marshes and other natural attractions. The Carnival of Barranquilla is not only the most important folk and cultural festival in Colombia, but also was designated by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Besides shining with this celebration, the city is an ideal destination for shopping and is a port where sailors from around the world dock their yachts and sailboats.
