Pontificia Universidad Catolica is one of the most important universities in Chile. It was founded on June 21st, 1888, and has 18 Schools distributed among four campuses in Santiago and one regional campus located in the south of Chile. The University's leadership in research and postgraduate programs has had a considerable influence on the country's cultural and scientific society, and has become a major center for research in social sciences, natural sciences, health, economics, agriculture, philosophy, theology, as well as arts and humanities. In addition, its research activities support doctoral programs and create a stimulating educational and intellectual environment. Located in what is considered to be a young and geographically distant country, Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Chile believes that maintaining an active exchange program with foreign universities is crucial to further develop academic environment. 11 majors with international certification Courses for foreign students: -Regular UC Courses -Special Courses -Minors / Academics certificates -Research Visiting Students: This program allows undergraduate and graduate foreign students to do research at UC with a professor who has expertise in the subject of interest. The Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile was founded on June 21, 1888 by Monsignor Mariano Casanova, Archbishop of Santiago. His goal was to create an institution capable of blending academic excellence and training based on the Christian doctrine.In spite of the changes, the University has always aimed to achieve a solid education, founded in the sciences, arts, humanities and Catholic morals. Thus, the University aims for its students to be not only technically and scientifically prepared, but also to be open to different human realities and to the social and personal responsibilities involved in the complete development of a society.

Campus and Accommodation

Libraries: Sistema de Bibliotecas de la Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (SIBUC), or the library system of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Chile, offers a comprehensive and specialized collection composed of more than one million books, audiovisuals, journals, scores, maps and CDs, among others, within its 10 libraries located on the four university campuses. Services available to students are: Access to national and international library databases Technical support (management and automated circulation) Numerous alternatives for obtaining documents (Reserve Collection and General Collection) Physical infrastructure and equipment Computer Services: Labs, computer rooms and WIFI internet have been installed on each campus. Students can access these services freely. Another service available to the student is UC email and Mi portal academic service. Each foreign exchange student will receive a sign-in name and password for the computer services. The University does not have student housing nor does it provide accommodation for foreign students; nevertheless, we have a list of options which students may contact directly. The University does not hold any responsibility for these options.

Teaching Quality

Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (UC) Full time UC Students = 50 credits /semester (Usually 5 courses of 10 credits each) UC Credit System One credit: one hour of work per week. This includes both contact hours and individual work, during 18 weeks (one semester). A full time student is expected to accumulate 50 credits per semester, usually 5 courses of 10 credits each (4 contact hours a week * + 6 hours of individual work per week). The total academic load is 900 hours per semester. 1 ten-credit course= 180 hours per semester. UC does not restrict the number of credits international students may take, though we do advise not to take more than 30-40 credits per semester, depending on their Spanish language proficiency. *3 sessions of 80 minutes each. -Minimum academic load full time UC students = 30 credits per semester.
